My new target is 200. It was 100 before the deadline was extended.
58 collected so far (excluding the 24 letters at Fremont train station)
Besides, I prepare & mail about 20 envelopes a day to WH=> these envelopes contain letters coming in from several folks in CA.
This weekend, NORCAL will do not 1 but 3 drives:

Understandable that Economic Stimumus Package is not a federal recuring benefit. However, ITIN holders (H4s) are eligible to claim child tax credit, why not this stiumuls benefit?. They should be given this benefit if they meet residency requirement. One should contact IRS to include ITIN holders to clain this benefit.
The IRS cannot make exceptions, since it is written in the law. However, the Social Security Act does not say that the benefit has to be recurring. I did get a reply today from the SSA. They claim the stimulus payment is a tax rebate, not a benefit. However, it cannot be a tax rebate, since the law was written to allow people with no income to apply for the check. There are even instructions on the IRS website that explain how people with no income can apply for the check. I am in the process of getting the opinion of an attorney. I will update you soon.
One last thing. I recommend that any discussions you have with the SSA be in writing. The SSA manager wanted to discuss this with me over the phone, but I insisted on written correspondence, because that is the only proof you have if this ever goes to litigation. The documents I have gotten so far already contain errors and contradictions that could be helpful in a legal case.

IV is a voluntary organisation. You can request people to volunteer, but cannot force them or scold them for not volunteering. This is not professional. They might have their reasons and the right to work their way. I agree with your frustration when people who signed to turn up do not show up. But I feel this is not the way to express it.

I work for the fortune 500 company, fragomen filed my case very last minute (just a day my 5th year finishes). I do not know why they did like that though the HR initiated my GC long time back. I found many of my friends also had similar issues. They really test your patience. One of my friend's case, they have totaly screwed up by filing last minute.

One needs real diversity in US population. There are too many here from EU.

If you were here two hundred years ago, you were part of them, no one will ask you for GC. Those people who came to this land two hundred years ago and their descendants are now recognized as Americans. They are no longer English, German, French, Italian...etc. They are Americans and this is their country which is called United State of America.
When this country starts the immigration law, does the law say only people from Asia is limited to 7% and not for people from EU ?
If this country today has no limitation with immigration and welcome anyone to come and stay forever at any time. This country will not be a great country anymore and I am sure many of you will not care to come to this land anymore but seek for another place.

Please don't shoot me for these thoughts, but please consider it only for sake of discussion.

I guess we are about 15K membership and if we include spouse and take a guess every one in five has dependent kid to join (wild gusstimate) we come close 35-40K approximately.

sorry to hear about your new issue. Your case can be easily fought back, cheer up. My case was AC 21 and fortunately my I 485 was approved last month without any RFE, but before approval I spoke to NSC customer service and got hold off a very good guy , who happened to be very helpful, he mentioned that the letter requesting to port the employer or change of attorney need to be addressed to appropriate division, failure to do will cause all these problems, since it take time for the USCIS to route the letter to correct division and most likely getting lost. The only solution to address this kind of problem is to bring the much needed regulation to AC 21 , a formal application process where we can track the progress.

I never understood until this point how come a letter requesting to port job using AC 21 in most cases never reach the file, whereas the letter requesting to revoke I 140 from employers are getting processed in 99% of the case. maybe its an excuse to get rid of some of the backlog :confused::confused:

I have a dream: IV team carrying at least 10 big boxes full of letters to show during the meeting.

There are uglier things than sausages being made. For example, when Bernie Sanders gave a 30 minute speech to increase H1B fees and make H1B program useless, he brought a big chart and the whole enchilada to try to prove that H1B depresses wages.
However, in the starting part of his speech, he said he supports the bill.
The bill brings in 200,000 guest-workers each year (it was 400,000 before Bingaman amendment). However, according to him, that is just fine. When guest-workers come to US in numbers like 200,000 then they dont depress wages of the lowest income group in America. However, when hi-tech workers come here they depress wages.

Just like IRS will be mailing checks to provide stimulus to the economy, IV bills need the stimulus of your checks to move forward.Now that Stimulus checks are in the mail, it's time for the community to loosen the purse strings and contribute to something that will benefit you immensely.
Let's not let this historic opportunity go waste over a sum of $50 or $100, something many of us spent just to get to the nearest available USCIS recognized doctor for our AOS medical tests. If these bills pass the savings are much greater - EAD/AP/DL renewal fees, FP fees, AC21 fees (whenever you change the job) etc. Now that the new Medical form has been posted - with additional TB testing - old tests may be considered invalid after a period of time ( I'm not saying they'll be, but knowing USCIS anything's possible). Not to mention job opportunities lost due to a missing plastic card - every one of us, EAD users, has at least one experience, where we couldn't apply or were denied opportunities for not having GC.
Considering the cost vs. benefits ratio, and the low risks unvolved (you aren't investing whole of your 401(k) here), let's not act 'pennywise and pound foolish'. Lets not fall victim to self-defeatist pessimism and thriftiness. If ,God forbid, the bills don't pass you are losing just 50 bucks, 100 bucks... something you'd have lost when the mail-in rebate check got lost in mail (or not got posted at all!). It's not like any of us will be losing our retirement savings or all our stocks. I'm sure no one will foreclose their homes because of it :-)

And yes, my contribution to IV so far as been $1000 and involvement in other drives. Your question to me regarding my contribution made me squirm a bit since you might have categorized me with many of IV's freeloaders. That's just like Americans asking me all the time "Are you on an H1-B visa and do you work for a bodyshopper". :)

Guys, temper your expectations. Cust Service Rep at USCIS are not trained to answer the questions that pertain to things like visa bulletin's effective date and whether or not they will accept the ones or reject the ones on July 2.
Cust Service Rep is for general information for those who cant or wont use the USCIS website and other sources of information on the internet. Or for those who dont speak English.
Cust Service is not intended to provide complex answers. Last I heard, even the Vermont service center folks didnt know about bulletin revision and they were turning down 3-year extension requests for H1 visas thinking that the bulletin is current until confronted by lawyers who said that bulletin is unavailable and now there is reason to give out 3 year extensions instead of 1 year extensions.
If Vermont service center was unaware of visa bulletin revision, then what do you expect from a Cust Service Rep who is trained to answer questions that cover information that can be fit in 20 pages ??????

We are seeing now the fruits of our efforts.
Update: Bipartisan Bill - HR 5882 introduced to Recapture EB visa numbers (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18773)
Update: HR 5921 Introduced to eliminate per country limits (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18856)
Despite a difficult year for immigration, there is movement of Bills for us.
The admin fixes campaign has also been successful. It is now a matter of time when administration chooses to make an announcement. We have been following up with them on regular intervals. The phase 2 of our campaign has also been going for past several weeks. Several state chapter members have traveled to DC and lobbied. Core has also traveled to DC to push for our provisions.
The latest good news is the bill on Recapture. IV has been on the front lines to announce all these developments and our lobbyists have been lobbying hard for us. All this effort costs money and thus we are starting a funding drive after a gap of 4 months so that we can continue this momentum. The more we can raise, the better we can lobby. We have a target to reach at least 50K in this funding drive so that IV can continue to be a voice of immigrants and take up their issues on the hill.

On a lighter note � I took a photocopy of my green card and kept it in file; I stare at it sometime when I am frustrated�.
