The San Jose Mercury News this week profiled Sheba George, Ph. D., an Indian-born sociologist who is the daughter of an Indian nurse, who is focusing her research on Indian nurses in the United States and how they can better integrate in to the American health care system. Professor George discusses in the interview the special challenges Indian nurses face and how these nurses can better adapt to their new environment.

Just when U.S. employers thought the bad vibes emanating from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) could get no worse, the agency tasked with deciding whether to approve or reject requests for immigration benefits has come up with VIBE -- its new Verification Initiative for Business Enterprises which costs a whopping $35,506,760.43. Just imagine . . . . . . a program in which USCIS, by using VIBE, "will acquire information from an [Independent Information Provider (IIP)] . . ., which can be used to verify the eligibility of a company while detecting multiple types of misrepresentations." . . ....

Hi,
I was working for Company A with whom I've my H1 & I-94 valid until Aug 2010. But I was laid off from Company A in Dec 1st week and I found a new job with Company B in Jan 3rd week. So I was out of status for about 6 weeks time.
Now Company B don't wish to file a transfer but instead they are filing something called H1 "Loose Petition", obviously I'm not going to start work with Company B until this H1 gets approved and I travel out of US, get restamped based on my New H1 petition, come back to US and start work for Company B.
But my question is, while from today until this so called "Loose Petition" H1 is getting processed (since they applied premium it would take about 2-3 weeks) can I legally stay in US (in terms of I-94 I've my I-94 from Company A H1 which is valid until Aug 2010)?
My employer suggest that I stay here until H1 processing result comes out and then leave country get restamped. Please let me know if you have an Answer.

Hi,
I am currently on H4 and had to file my H4 Extension as my current H4 was expiring. At the same time I also filed for H1B in 2008 and was picked up in the lottery. Now I am confused on which application the USCIS will consider.
Will it be H1B or H4?
If my H4 extension is approved after H1B will my status then becomes H4?
if H1B is approved after H4 will then the status becomes H1?
Is there a way that I can make sure the status at the end I have is H1B?
Thanks
RJ

Hi Gurus,
I am in my 9th year H1-B. I have my I-140 approved and I-485 pending since July 2007 through employer A (EB-3).
Employer B is willing to hire me on H1-B (transfer) using AC21 portability (and similarity of jobs). After the move, employer A will revoke my I-140 for sure.
Can I apply for an H1-B transfer with employer C after a year or two using AC21 portability? I do not want to use EAD. I want to use H1-B tansfer (3 year extensions)?
This is a major decision that I have to make.
Please reply at your earliest convenience.
Thanks.

I could speculate endlessly, but I'll go out on a [thick and sturdy] limb and say:
No, that is not legitimate. You will either get 1) ripped off yourself, or 2) ripped off equipment. In other words, you don't get what you don't pay for.
